The President Speaks about Arizona Shooter
January 12, 2011 – 11:56 pm by Cranky VoterI was watching the president speak at the University out in Tuscon. Not like I had a choice. All I wanted to do was watch the end of Minute To Win It and let the medicine I took make me feel a little better and there right in the middle of my show was Mr. Brian Williams interrupting my broadcast. Brian Williams in that overly concerned voice of his, talks about the community in pain. How Tuscon which is a small big city is still reeling from the tragedy. What does that mean, small big city? He goes on to say how you can feel the pain in the air or some such touchy feely melodramatic crap. So how many people that were there were really touched by the tragedy and how many of them were there just to be part of an event? Sorry I know that sounds a bit cranky, but when I go to service for someone who has pasted I don’t feel like cheering and there were people cheering. Also, there were a lot of people there in the auditorium. How did you get a ticket for an event like that? Did they charge for the tickets? Was someone making money off of this service or did you have to know someone to get a ticket? And do you think that the audience was encouraged to cheer and applaud or was it just a natural reaction to seeing Obama in person?
They introduced the President and the entire room which was filled to capacity started cheering and screaming for Obama. I wouldn’t have been so happy in my mourning, but they were cheering. Okay, so the President gets up and starts reading from the bible. Uhhh … so when was the last time Obama was in Church and how familiar is he with the bible? I guess what I am really asking, do you think he picked the passage himself or was it chosen for him? I guess it doesn’t matter he read it with such emphasis that he sounded like a preacher man. So he reads from the bible and the audience is cheering for him. Not like he is the President of the United States talking at a memorial service, but like he is some kind of rock star, saying words that will some how bring the people back alive from the dead. They are dead but the audience goes wild and screams and shouts for the President.
So he talks about the heros. The guy who ran to the congresswomen and made sure she could breathe. Ok, I will give you the fact that he probably saved her life, but have you heard the story. He was on the other side of the event and when he heard the shots he ran toward the congresswoman thinking she was the one who was shot and she needed his help. Isn’t that a little .. uuumm .. Suicidal? Dangerous? Presumptuous? Weird? Who thinks to themselves, oh I heard a gunshot, let me run towards it. Who says, hey the congresswomen needs me I am going to go help her? I saw a movie like that once. In the movie it turned out that the hero actually was part of the plot and hired the shooter to commit the crime so he could rush in and be a hero. Okay, cranky again, but who runs toward gunshots? And I thought you are always not supposed to touch the victim and yet he picks up her head and knows enough to hold her head at an angle so she can breath? He even wound up going in the ambulance with her to make sure she was emotionally calm? He was only working for her for 5 days and yet he knew what she needed. Great job, he’s a hero , but yeah, just a little freaky, don’t you think?
And the old chick that died, Obama called her his Grandma. Since when did Phyllis, the old dead chick become everyone’s Grandma? It is sad that she died though but she didn’t look like my Grandmother. Did she look like your Grandma?
Since when do we applaud and cheer a group of people for doing their jobs? They introduce the doctors and the room broke into applause. How do we know that these doctors did the best they could and even if they did, isn’t that their job? I wouldn’t applaud my mailman for delivering my mail, even if it were snowing or raining. It is his job. I wouldn’t cheer the guy at Dunkin Donuts for making the donuts in the morning or brewing a really good cup of coffee. If his coffee stinks I will go somewhere else, but I am not going to cheer him for making a good cup of coffee. So why are we cheering the doctors for treating Gabby. We can call her Gabby now because we are all best friends with her now, even though we didn’t know her yesterday. However the doctors are heros because with their magnificent super human abilities they did something that no one else could. At least no one who hasn’t trained to become doctors that is. They did their jobs and yet they get the biggest applause at the service. Next time I do what I do for a living I want applause. Next time you walk into Dunkin Donuts you give that guy a hand for making those donuts. A job is a job, why isn’t it?
And the old dude that jumped on top of his wife to shield her from the gunman? I guess he would have been better off charging the shooter instead of dropping and covering. And the way they described their lives was so romantic and unbelievable. They said that they were living together for 50 years as if they were on their honeymoon the whole time. I don’t know about you, but when I went on my honeymoon the last thing I was thinking about was that I was going to talk to my congresswomen at the mall. I guess what are you going to say about the couple? Well the old man was incontinent and wore depends but his wife still cleaned his butt. They fought about money and he has been unemployed for years so they eat cat food and live in a mobile home because the Social Security check just wasn’t as much as a job would pay? So I don’t really know if they ate cat food or wore depends but I am sure that people living 50 years on a honeymoon don’t go to see their congresswomen.
Even if she is the greatest congresswomen in the world. I actually had never heard about her before the shooting? Why is Gabby such a superstar now? What was her record and was she really a good congresswomen? I got a better question, why are we more concerned about her than the others who have been injured or died that day? Is she so special because her job is working for the people? Is she now a hero? Does it even matter what she believes in, everyone knows her name now and she is more popular than she ever was. Could you imagine if she has a full recovery and can actually go back to work with no side effects? If that miracle would happen and she regains her full health? Perhaps she is so popular she could even run for President.
That might start a trend though. Maybe Mitt Romney needs to have someone shoot at him so that he will do better in the Presidential race. Hey I am not wishing him ill, but before this very horrible event who could have named the congresswomen from the 8th district of Arizona? Who knew whether she was male or female? Let’s be serious, Romney needs some serious help if he ever expects to become President.
And speaking about the President, did you hear his speech? How can Obama talk about bequeathing the American Dream to future generations while he allows the deficit to skyrocket out of control and in effect imprisoning our children and grandchildren with debt? How can he talk about the American Dream when more people today can’t afford the American dream any longer? More people can’t find a job or are having trouble paying their mortgage. He wants America to live up to our children’s expectations and yet I know children who expect not to collect on the Social programs that he keeps pushing. Will my son collect Social Security when he turns 65? Will I? Will my daughter live to 65 if she has to depend upon Obamacare to give her treatment rather than ration her healthcare away and let her die? Will those doctors we cheered provide treatment if their reward is only the payment that they receive is from the reduced benefits from Government dictated fees? I wonder how much those doctors that we hold as heros are being paid to be those heros?
It was a horrible event. The shooter did something so deplorable and evil, but I wanted to watch Minute To Win It not the President speak. I felt forced into the services and I couldn’t help doubt the sincerity of the people in attendance. I could not listen to the words and the applause and think that these people were mourning. I felt like I was sold an event with an attempt to frame my opinion. I felt like I was listening to insincere speech and watching a group of people that were more concerned about celebrating than mourning. I felt that I was being told to translate my sadness and perhaps anger into a celebration of the heros. And as I am watching the biggest ploy was used. The President said that Gabby, his good friend that he knows so well, in the hospital opened his eyes after he left. He didn’t see it, but he was told that it happened. And he had to share the miracle with everyone because she opened her eyes. I thought she was being kept in a drug induced coma, so they were medically keeping her eyes shut. They could have awoken her at any time and they choose this moment to have her eyes open. So the President and Miracle man can tell the world that she has opened her eyes. Yeah, I see the car and it looks really nice, but I am still not buying it.
Maybe that sounds really cranky, and it is very cranky. That is because I am the Cranky Voter!
